You are appreciated

Got the following at my 2nd job on Friday:

TO: ALL EMPLOYEES
FROM: DAVE B.
DATE: JANUARY 28, 2005
RE: YOU ARE APPRECIATED!

Wednesday evening, January 26, 2005 turned out to be a
horrible night for
driving in the snow. A special thanks to everyone who came out despite the
bad road conditions... you really are appreciated!

OK how about some more gas reimbursment?! He dropped one place which is adjacent to another place I do and cut my gas reimbursment in half. Even though there is no change in driving distance. I am going to have to write him a note to complain about that. But the note was a nice justure I will give him that.

OK Weekend

This weekend has been OK. At least we made it above freezing! Saturday We went out and shopped for a bit. I got a few new shirts and a new pair of Jeans. Went looking for laptops, as Ashley wants to get one. Must have Centrino shit in it. I want to get one of those wireless cards for mine but they are still about $50. Wireless router with firewall etc is $89. They had some sweet deals at Comp USA for laptops.

I dont know shit about securing a wireless network for the home though.

Today Ashley wanted to go see a movie so she went while I stayed home with Daniella. Then we went to On The Border (Warning: annoying automatic flash site with shitty music) and the fuqheads said it would be an hours wait. Fuck that! So we went to Friday's (Warning: annoying automatic flash site with shitty music) and ate there which was OK. Still busy as hell. I was wondering why so many people wanted to go out to eat on a Sunday night. But there was still a 25 minute wait at Fridays. Guess people just wanted to get out after spending 2 weeks in the fucking deep freeze.

So now I am full as hell as I type this. Paul is getting a car tomorrow so I don't have to pick him up at the airport. A bit worried about the review though. Will see how it goes.

Turbo Tax

OK Turbo Tax is officially done now and it was so easy. It is 100% worth paying the $30 for it.

2005-01-28

I give up

I tried to look at the tax form for MA online and tried to make some sense out of it. No joy whatsoever. Even looking at the multi-paged instructions didn't seem to help. It looks as if I am going to go ahead and buy that stupid Turbotax state after work!

One more complaint before lunch

It's that time of year again. I have received all of my Tax forms from my 2 jobs, Student loan, and Ashley's forms. Last year I bought software from Turbo Tax cause I didn't feel like being financially raped by H & R Block. I have up until 2000 been doing my taxes by myself. Things get complicated -as they usually do - and I went to H & R Block in 2002. Anyway Last year I got the Turbo Tax plus state and it was brilliant! Well worth the $30. But I thought you could update this and use it every year. Apparently you can't do this. So, pissed off, I went to Staples and bought the new program. On the box it says something about the State forms being included. But it turns out you have to buy a separate program and then send in for the rebate. Bastards! I mean, what the fuck is the point of buying something and then sending in for a rebate that takes 4-6 weeks to get back? A period of time that is longer than the period of time it takes to get a Federal refund.

I still think buying a program and doing it yourself is a better alternative to paying $200 to have someone working for minimum wage -who H & R probably pulled from a temp agency - to run through a similar program on the computer while you sit in their office with Green decor. These people probably aren't qualified to do shit except follow prompts on a computer. I would rather buy a program and follow my own prompts thank you. And also not line the pockets of dirty old Fat Cat executives who own H & R Block so they can take vacations in Mexico sipping on Margaritas fondling young waitresses.

Window Dressing

Sadly, it is the truth. I spent the better part of yesterday and most of the day today cleaning up the office in preparation for Paul (my boss) and his visit Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. He will be conducting an annual review and although we have had a good year, we have had a few blunders as well. A colleague of mine in the UK who is at odds with Paul (He used to work under Paul in the UK) once said "We all make mistakes" and that phrase has stuck in my mind. I feel as if I am preparing for a board. I admit last year (Feb 2004) I was not prepared in the least for the barrage of questioning and constructive criticism that came. This year I have taken tools I learned in the army, like going before a board. A practice I haven't done since my interview (May 2002) which actually was a board. I know I should have nothing to worry about it is only Paul. But I want to come out of this being on top of things. So the office is mostly clean, the conference room is booked, and all I have to do is finish up cleaning and prepare myself mentally for it. Since leaving the army I think my military bearing has been eroded as well as my physical condition. I still keep a military state of mind when it comes to doing missions (road trips) but I think my focus has been lost.

I have all weekend and part of Monday to prepare. I have got to get my head out of the fifth point of contact here and get things straight. It seems it is too little too late, I know, but I will see how it goes.

worn out

Just got done shoveling outside ... again! This shit is getting old. I was all excited to get on here and do my taxes with my software I bought from last year called Turbo Tax Deluxe 2003 but it turns out that it is only for 2003 taxes. I thought when I downloaded the "update" that it would update to 2004's tax returns. Bastards! To me it just doesn't make sense to have to buy a certain product EVERY year. I would still rather pay the $20 at Target for the software than pay some dumb bum that H & R Block pulled off the street upwards of $200. When H & R Block pays these poor sould $8 an hour to run through a similar software program.

Daughter is crying now, so I better get off here.

Sums it up

The following article about sums up my whole attitude:

The dread of winter
Second storm bears down as towns dig out
By Glen Johnson and Megan Tench, Globe Staff January 26, 2005
A region already staggered by clogged streets, depleted plowing budgets, and the near exhaustion of school snow days after last weekend's blizzard faced another winter storm expected to strike as rush hour begins today, a one-two punch that had some municipal officials pondering how to cope with up to 9 more inches of snow...

Getting a bit pissed off and fed up. Pondering life in the tropics. Daydreaming etc.

2005-01-25

Unfair!

Sometimes life just isnt fucking fair!

Case in point:

Its been fucking frigid here for the past fucking month! and we just had 38" of snow on this last weekend. My fucking pipes froze in the kitchen and the forecast doesn't bring any light at all:

Friday Night...Mostly clear in the evening...Then becoming partly cloudy. Not as cold with lows 10 to 15.

And last week Denver was up to record highs, 70 degrees which is the same thing as fucking room temperature. I am only bitching about this cause of 8 out of the 10 people who make up the division I work with work in Boulder, CO.

And their forecast is fucking sugar and spice and everything fucking nice!

Sitting here typing up this listening to that Iridium Mix of 28/11/04 at about 41:00 into it. Good quality chill shit. Trying to busy myself with work tasks. I have drastically cut my participation of message boards at work and in general. Got the door of my office closed so I can listen to this music at a reasonable level. Looking through Karin's Office to the outside where it is ballz ass cold. Even with the sun out it is only going to get up to 10º F, -12º C. When I got up to start the car, I used a hand held temperature meter to measure a temp of -19.4º C which is about -3º F. I am far from being a wuss about it though. As someone who has spent 3 long cold winters in the interior of Alaska, I have seen it where it doesn't get warmer than -40º (same in F & C) for the duration of a month. So that is it gets down to -49º at night and then during the day it gets to -42º From January 1st to Feb 4th I was up there at 65º N but this type of cold ass shit isn't supposed to happen here at 41º N (latitude)

Anyway enough bitching about the cold. I am only a bit pissed that it is so nice in Denver, where it is supposed to freaking be cold! I am aware that in Florida it is nice and warm, But 'Effing Denver at 73º F (22º C) yesterday! That's freaking room temperature for god's sake!

Going to eat some good Chinese today for dinner and then go bowling with these people here at work. We will see how that goes. I haven't been bowling in a year. I usually suck at it. Like golf. I get the odd lucky shot, but as a whole I suck at it.

I am going to get myself some Subway for lunch dammit!

2005-01-20

This sucks

in Denver, where most of the people I work with are at, they will be getting record high temps, which is perfect for golf. The other night we got record lows. (there is no angry smiley but I guess I could make one) It is in the meantime all cold and wet and icy and slushy and shitty here.

>:(

Forecast discussion for Denver:

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSIONNATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DENVER CO330 AM MST THU JAN 20 2005.

SHORT TERM...

EVERYTHING STILL ON TRACK FOR RECORD TEMPERATURES INDENVER TODAY. EARLY A.M. ACARS SOUNDING SHOWS INVERSION DEPTH ONLYABOUT 600-700 FT DEEP AROUND DIA AND PROBABLY EVEN SHALLOWER IN THE WESTERN SUBURBS WHERE CURRENT TEMPS IN THE MID 50S. ACARS SOUNDING SHOWS PARCEL TAKEN DOWN DRY ADIABATICALLY FROM 800 MB WOULD ALREADY YIELD 68F...AND MORE WARMING IN THAT LEVEL WOULD SUPPORT 72-75F FOR HIGHS. HOWEVER...THERE ARE A FEW THINGS TO WATCH OUR FOR TODAY. ONE IS MOUNTAIN WAVE ENHANCED CLOUDINESS WHICH FOR NOW HAS CONFINED ITSELF TO WYOMING. THE SHORT RANGE MODELS SEEM CONSISTENT IN ATTEMPTING TO SPREAD SOME OF THE MOISTURE INTO OUR FORECAST AREA WHICH COULD LEAD TO SOME CLOUDS. THINK MOSTLY SUNNY SHOULD SUFFICE FOR NOW THOUGH SINCE WATER VAPOR SHOWS UPPER LEVEL MOISTURE QUITE SPARSE UPSTREAM. SECOND THING IS DOWNSLOPE FLOW DECREASES DURING THE DAY. HOWEVER...INVERSIONS ARE ALREADY QUITE SHALLOW SO THINK 70F IS QUITE LIKELY ATDIA AND A FEW SPOTS IN THE WESTERN SUBURBS COULD
REACH 75F. VERYWARM IN THE MOUNTAINS AS WELL. SPRING SKIING SHOULD BE IN FULL FORCE TODAY WITH HIGHS MOSTLY IN THE 40S AND EVEN SOME 50S IN THE MOUNTAIN VALLEYS.

LONG TERM...

A RATHER SIGNIFICANT SHORT WAVE WILL MOVE OVER THE BIG WESTERN U.S. RIDGE FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT. MID LEVEL COLD ADVECTION BEGINS TOMORROW MORNING...BUT THEN LOW LEVEL COLD ADVECTION REALLY KICKS IN FRIDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY AS SURGE OF ARCTIC AIR MOVES SOUTH ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS. WHILE WE WILL ONCE AGAIN BE ON THE EDGE OF ANOTHER ARCTIC
BLAST...WILL STILL HAVE TO LOWER HIGH TEMPS FOR SATURDAY BY ABOUT 10F DEGREES OVER THE PLAINS. IDEA OF ISOLATED SNOW SHOWERS IN MOUNTAINS WITH COLD ADVECTION AND VERY SHALLOW MOISTURE LOOKS GOOD.NOT MUCH NEW FOR SUNDAY THROUGH
NEXT WEDNESDAY. WARM ADVECTION MONDAY AND TUESDAY WITH WELL ABOVE NORMAL TEMPS EXPECTED. THEN POTENTIALLY SOME MODERATION THROUGH MID WEEK. PACIFIC IS GETTING ACTIVE AGAIN SO THE SOUTHWEST U.S. SHOULD TRANSITION INTO A MORE WINTERLIKE WEATHER PATTERN BEGINNING NEXT WEEKEND. .

BOU WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
NONE.

Cold air

Cold air has moved into the area and it got down to 0º F (-17ºC) last night. It looks as if we are going to have a cold week ahead as well. I have to pick this guy Colin up at the airport today. He is coming in from LHR. I wonder how much of a shock it will be to him as it is 45º F (7º C) in London today.

Effing cold! Our Relative Humidity is at 47% as well, so that makes it colder.

Ambient

Thanks to my good friend Bishop, he has directed me to some ambient stuff.

First Set
Second Set

The parent site

I think the following quote should be read though before listening to it

Quote from Bishop:

yo... check out this link, and especially the iridium sets. i'm not sure how much ambient stuff you've listened to, but this stuff is excellent imo. nice and soothing, with that fsol psychadelic-ish psychosis. lots of arabian nights sounds to it too since it's ambient on the goa side. one thing i know is that the electronic music snobs regularly say that trance is garbage.. and i'd agree with them to a large extent. but i've never once heard anyone really say that goa or psy-trance is crap. the stuff's definitely one of my favorite genres. it's got this sound that seems almost untouched by commercial influences. lots of diverse sub-genres within the sub-genre too. the ambient stuff is best played when you're either in a funky mood orwhen you're tired. heh, obviously, otherwise it wouldn't be
called ambient.

Still dealing with a leak

The people at Cummings Properties are dealing with my leak in the office but it seems as if they are not very concerned that it is leaking like a MOFO in my office!

Just had to get that off my chest.

Funny as hell

I found this which is funny as hell. I find the site amusing, I have only seen a few pages though.

What pisses me off so much about this phrase is the sheer narrow-mindedness of these stuck up vegetarian assholes. You think you're saving the world by eating a tofu-burger and sticking to a diet of grains and berries? Well here's something that not many vegetarians know (or care to acknowledge): every year millions of animals are killed by wheat and soy bean combines during harvesting season (source). Oh yeah, go on and on for hours about how all of us meat eaters are going to hell for having a steak, but conveniently ignore the fact that each year millions of mice, rabbits, snakes, skunks, possums, squirrels, gophers and rats are ruthlessly murdered as a direct result of YOUR dieting habits. What's that? I'm sorry, I don't hear any more elitist banter from you pompous cocks. Could it be because your shit has been RUINED?

2005-01-15

Update on the music

OK that site is a bunch of House, if you are into that... but the D& B set is good.

I need a new HD by the way. Mines only an 18GB, and I did have 7GB of music which I had put to CDs and deleted from the HD. But it would be nice to get a 90GB HD ... as well as a new 60GB iPod photo but nobody's perfect.

just a thought.

New Music now

Dealing with some hardcore personal shit, I am definately in the mood for some downtempo chill shit.

mist

Today I feel rested. I was so tired last night that I came home from cleaning at 930pm and just zonked out. Slept until 8am. I didnt get a pace count yesterday but it would have been high. Maybe not upwards of 10,000 but close.

Yesterday, left Newburg at 11am. It rained the whole way back to Boston. The Subaru started acting up right as I was going through the Ted Williams tunnel. I dropped Off Stefanie ok, and left to go back to the office. I should have went back in to the Ted Williams, but I wasnt thinking. The Sumner was being worked on, it was leaking bad, and then they had the I-93 ramp blocked off. I had to drive through the North End, Charlestown, then get finally on at Sullivan Sq. The Subaru died in the breakdown lane next to Spot pond. I waited there for a few minutes, then was able to start it up again. Drove it directly to Subaru, of Wakefield. They checked it out and said it was the main air intake sensor. Cost $460.

So now I drove it back to the office. And then went to my cleaning job. It is all misty outside.

2005-01-11

Snowstorm

Today started out OK. Started with my work. Then 10.00 came and so did the snow. It sucked. I didn't get finished tonight and so another night in Newburg is needed. Plus driving back to Boston would be dangerous in the snow.

Very Tired now.

You gotta love it when you see something like this in a hotel room. :)

The Old blog format.

What I have done

Where I am currently sitting.

My room tonight.

New Blog

Found this cool site:

Dunkin Donuts

Love that place -the store.

What I am looking at right now.

In Newburgh

NY. Drive over was slow. Got here a bit late. I picked up Steph at the airport. Drove here directly from there. Checked in to the hotel. The girl gave us funny looks cause she must have thought something fishy was going on. Steph checks in using her Surname - of course different to my surname. Both us married. But we did get 2 different rooms so I don't know what this girl was thinking. Mind must have been in the gutter :)

We went out to eat. Had some good food, I got stuffed and we came back here to the hotel. I will be eating breakfast tomorrow. I plan to check out at 0730. I am going to take care of business and then haul ass back to Boston. I had only booked 1 night into this hotel but Steph booked 2. I hope it is not a bad omen or a sign of things to come. I want to be back home by tomorrow night.

Will let you know how things went.

Back to work tomorrow

Well I tried to go to bed early on Friday night but that didnt happen. I picked up Ashley and Daniella in the worst possible weather conditions. We ate at the Olive Garden in Manchester, NH. Today we didn't really do much but bought her a new rocking chair. I walked to the Chinese place tonight and got dinner. I had bought a Pedometer yesterday to guage my steps per day. Will keep tabs up on my progress.

Off to work again tomorrow.

My family are finally back home :)

2005-01-07

Uhh Scratch that...

I am tired as hell and am going to go to bed. Going to get up at 8am tomorrow so I can get an early start on:

  • Finishing cleaning the house
  • Doing laundry
  • Going into my office to finish packing and readying for my trip to Newburgh, NY on Monday

Time to shift it in high gear

Already cleaned the Bathroom, the kitchen and now am trying to wash some clothes. Doing the "mad-dash-to-clean-before-the-wife-gets-home" deal. Cause us guys live in squalor for the most part. Except gay guys. For some reason they seem to keep everything very clean and neat and spotless. Anyways Dishwasher is running, and I need to find one more quarter to do 2 loads of wash. Where did my damn quarters go!?!

Wait a minute... just got a text from Ashley saying to call her.. So I will post this now.

More humor

From my second job (cleaning offices). First If you havent read the story do so here. Then have a look at the actual notes left here. Wednesday, I was cleaning and she had left the damn heater on again under her desk. I unplugged it and placed it on top of her desk with the cord wrapped underneath the cubicle partition stuck into the next cubicle. I did this so as to make her stop and think... "Shit, I left my heater on." So now it is quite funny cause I was cleaning the same lady's desk tonight (I imagine her to be in her late 20's) and I noticed she had written herself a note and posted it on her computer monitor.

I will keep you updated.

The saga continues

Time to pack

I will spend most of the day packing for next weeks trip. I have to pick up Stefanie at the airport on Monday the 10th at 1430. The Subaru seems up to the challenge. I can't pack up the Subaru until Monday though cause of leaving it in the parking lot here at work over the weekend.

Ashley and Daniella finally get back tomorrow. I have to pick them up from the airport at 1930. I have got to get it together now and clean up my office. The leak, the trips of the past month and my laziness -not cleaning it up. Well Cleaning is the wrong word. organizing would be better.

So off to it now...

Mr. Hate of Texas has linked my blog from his blog so I will return the favor:

At work now

I was going to take a picture of the snow coming down but I left the camera at home. Only managed to get 5 hours of sleep again last night. If I could only get to sleep at 10pm instead of 1am things would be good. Well tonight I have to clean up the house and do laundry (gotta get quarters) before Ashley gets back on Saturday.

What pisses me off right now is the leak in my office. Some background:

7-6-04 We move in to a different office, smaller, more effecient, newer building. Perfect! I step down from having a 400 sq ft (37 sq meter) office and lab area to a 288 sq foot (26 sq meter) office/lab area combined. I got gyped cause everyone else got new desks and new chairs new everything and I have my old ass shit. But that is another rant in and of itself.
I thought everything was fine. The it rained. For the next few months it was only my office that had a leak. Back in Nov the office across the hall from me, Karin, hers started leaking and then I didn't feel so bad. It started a chain of events now though that it has affected the office next to me, and an office down the hall. The building owners don't seem like they are doing enough. It seems someone would have noticed when they were installing the drop ceiling they would have noticed. These buildings are adaptable the inside of them are built to spec. Walls etc everything. I doubt they are going to be able to fix this problem at all. But it is pissing me off right now. I am slightly better after the morning coffee. "Spiced Egg nog" flavor... I am not a big fan of flavored coffee which saw its rise to fame in the early 90's. But I do like it on occasion. Like the Pumpkin Spice Iced Coffee at Honey Dew Donuts. Also a bit excited that there is a new Subway franchise in the office park. Before we had to go through a heavy traffic spot to eat lunch. But now I can walk to the Subway which rocks.
Will try and get home for lunch though and then I can take some more photos and will post them on here later tonight.

Oy...

Nothing left to bitch about. Smoking ban has worked in my favor with respect to dining in restaurants. This is excellent. I would like to write a letter to the Mass Legislature and Governor Romney to say thank you for enacting a statewide ban on smoking :)

Caught up on loads of sleep last night. Went to bed at midnight and woke up at...0815! I was in a rush to get to work on time.

It will be raining, sleeting and snowing tomorrow.

Noam Chomsky

The oddest thing just happened, I was coming back from Harvard, and I got on the train and I saw this old guy who looked like a professor. I saw he had a notebook with drawings, and notes etc. He was reading a magazine -which was poking fun at president Bush. I knew Noam Chomsky was old, but I had never seen a picture of him at all. So I just now went online, found this picture. And it just so happens that he was sitting next to me on the T. He got off at Alewife -my stop. Really odd. But it makes sense in a way. He could have come from Kendall Stop and was going to Alewife. I got on at Harvard.

Like England in winter

Outside. Moist, a bit temperate. Wet ground. Almost as if I could close my eyes and I would be there.

Job #2 cut my hours. He was pissed that I was out all the time. Damn the last trip I had was 15th of Dec and it was only for 1 day. I was out on the 21st of Dec too but I returned to Boston that night to do the job.

Now he is pissed that I have to leave on the 10th. Its only 1 night. Anyway this kind of sucks, but it is kind of OK cause it was starting to take its toll.

Going to FIRE + ICE tomorrow for dinner. Going to duck out of work early to drive to Alewife and take the subway.

Effing tired as well. :(

Freezing rain expected.

After spending much of the day downloading sets (D & B) from Nowsound, I decided to use the gift certificate (card) that Dave my 2nd job boss gave me from Bobs Stores. I set out and got there I have been wanting to get some new Shoes slush shoes or "breakup shoes" what we called them in Alaska. I got These. They rule! Photo taken below...

They are for when it gets slushy and the snow is melting. They have siped outsole for anti-slip.

Anyway I then went to Burlington Mall to get myself a bite and I ate "Le Petit Bistro" good stuff. I saved some of it for dinner. (in a few minutes time) Why do young teenage girls always follow a fashion trend no matter how silly it is? Case in point, those stupid UGg boots. Comeon! They would have been high fashion in Fairbanks Alaska but I think they look kind of stupid. I do like the mens Ugg Barlow, or Copley. Nice Vibram Outsole. But I see so many girls wearing them. I also wonder why in the hell does Abercrombie pump music so loud in the store? Who the fuck shops for clothes in an environment like that? I like my music but unless I am at a club/venue I like to pump my shit loud via the use of headphones. Maybe it is an indication of their intelligence. The way they would Whore themselves out like that, wearing clothes with "Abercrombie" emblazoned across the front. Or girls with "A & F" or whatever marked directly on their asses. WTF is the point of that? If you are wearing a good label -good quality clothing doesn't need to advertise itself. Other people recognize it. At the least, I prefer subtlety. Calvin Klein Jeans as an example. There is a tiny (1 x 3 cm) tag on the top of the right pocket. Nice.

I have decided I should start going to bed earlier. This going to bed at 4am shit is not going to fly when I have to go to work. Granted that was New Years Eve/Day.

A cold night, a wet cold night is in store. It was raining when I left the mall.

My new Boot :)

Happy New Year

Well I had the most boring new Year since 1994-5. That year I had taken a flight from Augusta, GA to St. Louis, MO to visit Dad and Bonnie. (stepmom) and she had bitched me out for some reason and I just went to bed early. (2300 or something) I heard them popping the cork and living it up. I was so pissed, I had sacrificed my leave time to come home to them and then they were arguing with me for some reason and I am sitting in bed jamming to some music at midnight. That sucked hardcore. I was 19 and I could have been partying my ass off somewhere else. But I was in St. Louis with no car and I didn't know ANYONE in St. Louis. Plus-its 1994 and Cell phones were not very popular.

Anyway

I was sitting at home by myself, it was me and the dog. I was watching Fear Factor. And then changed the channel to the ABC New Years coverage. Their clock was off, (I have my watch synchronized with the GPS) and then Regis switched to "Ashlee Simpson in Hollywood" and it looked as if they were celebrating as if it had already been new year. But give me a freaking break. At the age of 7 I understood that when its midnight in NYC its 9pm in LA. -More contributions to the stupefacation of America I suppose. This is confirmed after I hear this girl speak. I believe I lost a good number of brain cells just hearing her.
So I turned the channel and came to the computer. Decided to go to Tilos and listen to music. I dont remember if I posted it on here or not but that site is awesome. You basically go to here. and then click on a day. (the day must coincide with the proper day in Hungary - I think -well probably not) and then on a time (CET) under the preferred bitrate. (128) then it is a webcast that you can save. Good stuff. I usually save loads so I can take with me on my trips -in the air or in the car. They come in 30 min blocs and it is way better than the radio in Bumville, USA or Bumville, Canada. Something different anyway. They have something for everyone. Good stes, also classical and rock. If you see an oval with an H in it that means commentary is in Hungarian. (D for German etc etc)
