The final day

The final day, originally uploaded by Chris1051.

I normally don't listen to the iPod on the weekends. I just happen to pick it up on Sunday and there was an icon with the website

http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/

This was the icon on the display. I then read the website and t says I have to reset the ipod, well, I did so and now the ipod is cleaned off -0 files. And the computer will no longer recognize the ipod. After 3 years of faithful service, the iPod may have finally bitten the dust.

There is still one more thing I have to try -and thats to deinstall iTunes and then re install it, killing all my playlists and everything. Major pain in the ass.

SO for now, I am copying my daily shows to a cd and listening to them that way. it sucks I cant listen to any audiobooks or any music.

Work

Work, originally uploaded by Chris1051.

Busy with work, and this week is a travel week.

Not much else to say except that -the only time I can sit on here and blog, I should be sleeping cause I have to get up in 4.5 hours.

Not freaking fair.

I just got done watching a video that made me cringe, (according to the wiki entry its a you tube hit) Absolutely disastrous. What does this say about education in America?

The tree has been put up for a week, only to show to my dad for his visit. But outside of America, most other countries put up Christmas trees prior to the American Thanksgiving.

Of course, myself being a free thinking secularist, I do not object to a tree in the house or the giving of gifts. I was raised in the tradition of Christmas.

Incredible Christians & the death of Twitter

Mean Christians, originally uploaded by Jacob Krejci.

As seen on my bible belt group on flickr.

This is in Gatlinburg, TN. I started this group to document these sorts of in-your-face preaching that is prevalent here in the south.

I haven't blogged lately because I have been incredibly busy with my new job, and also, no laptop to be had, (hence the flickr blogpost)

I also wanted to blog about the death of Twitter. Well, twitter is alive and strong, but I can no longer contribute, as my new cell phone from work has had text messaging disabled. was it Cinderella or Motley Crue who had the song "You don't know what you've got 'till its gone"?

Anyway, It was a non-essential segment to my every day life, that I miss dearly. -Twitter and the ability to text my wife.

Not a very big deal, but adjusting is, just plain weird.

Velvet Ant Death

Velvet Ant Death #1, originally uploaded by Chris1051.

Background:

I came home from work today as usual, I sat on the porch and took off my boots. I slipped on my crocs and was about to step inside. I saw this bad-ass mean velvet ant trying to make its way in the house via the front door. Trying to crawl in. This thing had to be eliminated. They have a painful sting and if it was allowed to get in the house, and if Daniella saw it, she might be inclined to pick it up. So I grab the nearest thing I can find (a flip flop) and start beating it. It starts making a very weird sound. I continue to beat it for about 10 times. (its a very tough bug) I guess I injure it enough to where I can pick it up using my leatherman. I place it on the trunk of my car and the damn thing starts moving again. I run in and get my camera. The resulting set is what happened. The "ant" kept moving so I had to burn it. In the pictures you can actually see the stinger. File this under the "holy shit" file.

Info:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutillidae

They are known for their extremely painful sting, the venom of which was jokingly stated to be powerful enough to kill a cow, hence the nickname "cow killers." Additionally, it has been stated cows occasionally would be stung while rolling in the sands of Florida. The resulting sting would fester, allowing the screw-worm fly to enter the wound. This would result in the death of the cow. The name hung on to the velvet ant even after the screw fly was eradicated in Florida in 1982. As with all Hymenoptera, only the females sting, and like all other wasps and bees (except honey bees), they can sting multiple times. If handled, they also have a structure called a stridulitrum on the metasoma which they use to produce a squeaking, chirping sound (more like a high pitched hum) to warn would-be predators.

The family can be recognized best in the female; they are the only wingless female wasps that have hair-lined grooves on the side of the metasoma (called "felt lines") and in which the segments of the mesosoma are all fused dorsally. Only one other vespoid family (Bradynobaenidae) has felt lines, but the females have a distinct pronotum and an elongated ant-like petiole. The earliest-known velvet ants are believed to be specimens from the Dominican Republic preserved in amber for some 25 to 40 million years.

The Underground Peoplemover to the International Terminal

Looking for something good in my photos to blog about but didn't have the patience to do so. So I looked in my contacts. SIC does excellent work and I hope in time I can be as half as talented.

A very pretty picture with a not so pretty story. Why is it that every time I am forced to use a public toilet I run into this scenario:

The place is deserted, I go in with the intention to get my business done as quickly as possible.
15 seconds later, it becomes Grand Central-fucking-Station. With shedloads of guys coming in demanding to use the toilet. It never fails. It happens this time all the time!

And another pet peeve of mine, is when I am taking a piss and some asshole decides to - while standing at the urinal, clear his throat getting boogers and lugeys from deep within the back of his throat, and bring them up and spit them out into the urinal. What would posses these disgusting men to do this? Why specifically at the urinal? I see this all the time. I wonder if its just a redneck thing. Its vile and disgusting. These men are of a different species. They are Troglodytes.

Served since childbirth

Its quite sad to see people waste their entire short precious lives worrying about whether or not they are going to go to heaven or whether they are going to be tortured forever in hell.

From the BBC:

TV evangelist Messner dies at 65
Former US TV evangelist Tammy Faye Messner has died aged 65 near Kansas City after a long battle with cancer.

Messner became a household name in the US in the 1980s as Tammy Faye Bakker, the wife of preacher Jim Bakker.

Her tearful nationally-televised pleas for money and souls helped turn the Praise The Lord (PTL) network into a multi-million dollar business.

Yes, thats it. God wants you to give till it hurts. I think its a good idea to yank all § 501 c. status of all churches. Force them to compete for money like any other business.

"She is now in heaven with her mother and grandmother and Jesus Christ, the one who she loves and has served from childbirth," he said.

hmm thats odd, someone "serving" Jesus since childbirth? I didn't know any child who could serve anyone as they are born. This says a lot about childhood indoctrination. What if she had been born in China, or in Afghanistan? It is a common belief of theists that you don't have any say in where you were born, so if there is an omniscient and omnipotent God out there and Christianity is right and Islam is wrong, why would he allow her (if she had been born) or anyone to be born into Afghanistan to Afghanistan parents? To live her life in a war-torn country - with a very low life expectancy?

Cause it makes God happy to see suffering? If not why doesn't he put a stop to it?

Natural Selection

Yukon_Territory, originally uploaded by Chris1051.

Anyone who denies Natural Selection (i.e. creationists) are doing so while Natural Selection is staring them in the face.

How many times do you hear about people getting flu shots annually because the influenza virus has mutated and adapted to our antibodies? How many times have you heard of a parent washing their poor kids' heads in an anti lice shampoo, only to have those lice be impervious to the chemical, due to Natural Selection? In only a few generations, these organisms have adapted and overcame.

Every single day, bacteria and single cell organisms become resistant to drugs and antibodies, this is a clear example of natural selection and evolution right in front of the creationists' noses.

Then of course you get these "Intelligent Design" People who claim "god" planted the seeds of life, and then put his feet up and watched evolution take place on Earth.

Bullcrapola IMO. Its just clear examples of back peddling and apologist crapola.

Too Much Bullshit

At home I use DSL. What at one point was AT & T that had been broken up by the government for being a monopoly, turning it into Bell South (Verizon, Bell Atlantic etc etc) and now has become A T & T again, forces us to have a land line so we can use DSL. I don't really mind this as my Sat box has to dial out each morning. Fine.

They said the Land line is $13 which is nothing at all, fine. What really gets me is the excessive BULLSHIT the govt tacks on. What the fuck is a "FCC authorized charge for network access"? What the fucking fuck!

Its not even really that much, ($24.37) but it pisses me off when I pay 47% of the actual cost of having a dialtone to BULLSHIT. Who gets this money?!?!

Fire

Fire, originally uploaded by Chris in Nashville.

I was driving around today and saw some black smoke. I drove down the road to find that it was blocked. There - on the overpass, a fatal accident happened today. Read Channel 5's story here.

Repost (in case they kill the link in the future)

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn.- A tanker truck and dump truck collided Wednesday afternoon on Vietnam Veterans Boulevard, killing one person and closing the roadway in both directions.

The massive truck fire happened around 12:30 p.m. on State Route 386 or Vietnam Veterans Boulevard at the Stop Thirty overpass, which is located between Indian Lake Boulevard and Saundersville Road, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

Several people called and emailed NewsChannel 5 to say they saw a huge fire. Black smoke was visible from surrounding TDOT cameras.

"It was the blackest smoke you ever saw in your life," Cathy Flowers, who lives in the area.

Deep, dark clouds filled the sky after the explosive crash on Vietnam Veterans Boulevard.

"Instead of getting better it kept getting worse and worse," said Wanda McKinney.

It took firefighters several hours to get the flames under control.

One of the drivers died in the crash. The other was sent to Sumner Regional Medical Center.

Authorities said it appeared that the tractor trailer hit the dump truck from the rear. There was no spillage, but authorities were concerned because the tractor trailer carried a flammable liquid.

According to Cumberland Electric Membership Corp., 772 households were without power Wednesday afternoon due to down power lines caused by the collision.

Vietnam Veterans Boulevard was closed in both directions, and officials suggested that motorists take alternate routes including U.S. 31E or Gallatin Road or SR 174 also known as Long Hollow Pike.

TDOT reopened westbound lanes of Vietnam Veterans Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Several TDOT HELP trucks were on the scene to assistance with traffic control and to provide assistance to motorists. TDOT bridge inspection crews inspected the overpass to determine if it was safe because flames scorched the Stop Thirty overpass. Traffic was allowed to move again beneath the bridge on Vietnam Veterans Boulevard.

Eastbound lanes on Vietnam Veterans Boulevard between New Shackle Island Road and U.S. 31E remained closed.

Motorists are urged to use either U.S. 31E, which is also known as Gallatin Road, or Long Hollow Pike as alternates.

TDOT said the heat from the fire damaged asphalt on the eastbound lanes underneath the Stop Thirty overpass.

Maintenance crews will be working Wednesday night to repave that section of the road.

TDOT said that the Stop Thirty overpass will be closed indefinitely and motorists should use Calendar Lane or New Shacke Island Road to cross Vietnam Veterans Boulevard.

Both vehicles were destroyed. As of Wednesday evening, investigators did not say whether charges would be filed.

Pop Culture Madness

Thanks Al for thinking about me -the music blog post.

Rules,

At popculturemadness Check top songs of the year you turn 18. For me, thats 1993.

Describe a nostalgia about some of the songs. OK thats not to hard I still own some of them in my music library today.

(So this doesnt become a Chinese whisper thing, I will copy verbatim the rules from Al's blog.)

1. Go to http://www.popculturemadness.com/
2. Pick the year you turned 18
3. Get yourself nostalgic over the song’s of the year
4. Write something about how the song affected you
5. Pass it on to 5 more friends.

OK now with the list... I wont post all 75 songs, but some notable ones.

1. What Is Love - Haddaway Well I think this one really did nothing for me. Typical pop top 40 BS. Catchy tune.
2. Come Baby Come - K7 More pop top 40 BS. Of no interest to me, Do I remember it? Unfortunately yes.
3. Hero - Mariah Carey - I remember buying this CD (yes laugh now) because of the release single, (dreamlover - or whatnot) As I was at the time leaving my pop-kid status. This is the sort of thing played on MTV and VH1 and also played at High School Dances. Hearing this (only in my mind now) immediately takes me back to my Senior year in High school, running in Cross country races.
6. Can't Help Falling In Love - UB40 Timeless track. From Elvis to UB40. I love this track. UB40 put a really excellent take on it. Hearing this reminds me of having to walk to my job. And looking back on it now, I am glad I had to. All of the cool kids drove everywhere. Walking each and every day made me a better person.
7. Dreamlover - Mariah Carey Ahh yes here it is. High school dance anyone?
9. Nuthin' But A "G" Thang - Dr. Dre Most people who were too young at the time try to hearken back to an age in hip hop of the birth of Gangsta ass rap. I was old enough to remember this clearly. Yes I listened to N.W.A., Ice Cube, et al. But this song brought Gangsta ass rap into the mainstream, all with the thanks of MTV. Also networks like "The box". So to every person under the age of 25 who says they loved this song and talk about it being "Old skool" needs to Bacdafucup. :)
16. Hip Hop Hooray - Naughty By Nature I remember going for my driving education it was summer 1991 and by then Naughty by nature had already had success with their debut album. There was a girl taking the course with me and she was a huge fan and told me about the album (19naughty 3) or something. The album had not come out though. I think she may have been privy to some inside shit, I shrugged it off. The most memorable part of that course was being stuffed into the back seat of a cheap ass Ford Tempo, 4 kids and an instructor in the car. And she was riding in the middle, I was riding in the back next to her. We drove around for hours, and I was really glad to be done with it.
29. Whoot, There It Is - 95 South Please God, make it stop!
52. Slam - Onyx - Speaking of Bacdafucup :)
51. Informer - Snow Holy Christ nooooooo! There was this friend of mine who used to play the shit out of this song, and we would be rollin in his Maxima hauling ass, and this song would be playing on repeat. And I wanted it to end, after the second play.
57. Runaway Train - Soul Asylum My parents haad bought me a portable CD player for my 18th birthday along with this Single CD. It was the first CD I ever owned.
56. Creep - Radiohead -Classic Timeless

And really I dont know who else to pass this on to. I am sorry but I dont think Isherwood or Jason would appreciate it.

No picture tonight

Well I had hoped I could add a photo of today, but I have failed to transfer the photos to the PC and upload them.

So I think I can just add an old photo. I have been writing less and photo blogging more - I think it is because of the lack of time. I suppose, I could blog during my lunch -rather than reading TIME magazine.

Well browsing through the old photos, in the first folder I came across I found a photo of me in Portage, Alaska in July 1997. Notice the 1995 Air Max running shoes.

2) I dont know if I did this right but anyway, wow 5 places to eat out. There are two really good deli restaurants here in and around Nashville I like to eat one being Phat Bites and the other being Notable Bistro. I am not a big fan of the chain restaurants that are becoming the norm - pretty much anywhere in America now. I like to discover independent restaurants. But on the chain side, I like to eat at Panera Bread and also Bar-B-Cutie sometimes. Hmm I guess that leaves one more. Another massive chain that seem to do ok are Cracker Barrel. They are generally clean and the food is ok. You just have to brush aside the smoke wafting into the non-smoking section from all the rude fucks sitting in the smoking section -as with any restaurant here in Tennessee.

3) holy fuck beans 5 people!? Well I will try my hardest. I have contacted Jason and Isherwood.
