Bible Belt Nuts

Bible Belt Nuts, originally uploaded by Chris1051.

Today I was driving around in Bible belt territory and saw this. This is not too far from the Porn Store protesters. Also not far from the shock and awe billboard campaign against abortion.

Here's a thought. Thou shalt Keep thy religion to thy fucking self.

I do. I don't create 20 x 15 signs pushing guilt on people. I also don't threaten children with hellfire as a form of moral policing. I express myself through this blog and online. My car is free of bumper stickers. No one knows I am an atheist (out of safety concerns - very telling of Christians eh?)

You have chosen a medium that allows for interaction, and I respect that. How much respect could you have for someone who says they believe the bible to be the very word of God and then not do what it says? I would feel sad for that person. Here is what Christ had to say...Mat 7:24 "Anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.
Mat 7:25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock.
Mat 7:26 But anyone who hears My teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.
Mat 7:27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash."

I am no less offended by the way some "Christians" share the gospel, but it does not mean the message is false. You judge God by what someone else has done. If someone kills someone should you take the blame? No the person who committed the murder should take the blame since they and not you are guilty. Don’t blame God for the actions of people proclaiming his name.

I believe that you fall into the category that I call the couch potato philosopher. You have Ideas of what truth is, then you go off on a rant, but you don't test them out and do your research. Yes, I know many Christians who are guilty of the same thing. Here is what the bible has to say about both you and them…

Joh 4:23 But the time is coming—indeed it's here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way.
Joh 4:24 For God is Spirit, so those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth."
1Th 5:21 but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.

You see, the bible even says to test it since it is a part of everything. Test it. I dare you. I too was once an atheist, but then I set out to show my family why the bible was just a silly manmade book.

Here are just a couple of thoughts to consider as you begin a journey if you are brave enough.

If there were an infinite number of days before today, how many days would we have to go through before we got to today? That is right, we would never make it to today which proves that time has a beginning.

In layman’s terms, the first law of thermodynamics states that there is no new energy being added, and no energy is going away. Basically we are in a closed system. The second law of thermodynamics states that the amount of usable energy is constantly decreasing. Basically the universe will burn out. So if there were an infinite number of days before today, how long ago would the universe have burnt out and dissipated? That is right, an infinity ago…. Matter also has a beginning.
So here comes the atheist scientists with their latest attempt, the big bang. The way that they address the problem of the universe appearing out of nothing, since this would be a miracle, is to say that the universe began as an infinitesimal speck at which the laws of physics no longer applied, the point of singularity, and then it exploded and whala we have the universe as we know it today. So if the universe was an infinitely small point of super dense matter, first of all how could it escape its own density, and even if it exploded at an infinitely exponential rate for an infinity, it would still be infinitely small since anything times infinitely small is infinitely small. So there you have it the universe had a starting size. Something from nothing.

Name one living thing without a parent of some kind.

Consider for a moment the human eye. Evolution would have you believe that one of our ancestors somewhere along the way developed an eye by random mutation. The individual with this highly beneficial mutation was able to dominate its niche and therefore pass along this new genetic code to its offspring. Neat story. If you remove even one part of an eye it no longer functions as an eye. It becomes useless. So for the eye to evolve and benefit an individual of a species giving it advantage and therefore passing along its eye code, it would have to randomly mutate a fully functioning eye with a fully functioning optic nerve with a fully functional brain that could even interpret the data and heart some blood and eyelids etc….. Even the most basic life form is a complexity beyond understanding. You see life and function are not possible without order and design. This is called irreducible complexity. If you looked at the human body and a wrench, I’m sure you could see that it is much more likely that a wrench would occur from random chance than a person. Remember the second law of thermodynamics. Randomization, not order. Mechanical function indicates design.

Here is also what the bible says…
Rom 3:23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard.
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Rom 5:8 But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
Rom 10:9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Rom 10:13 For "Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved."
Rom 5:1 Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
Rom 8:1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

For a better understanding why those who call themselves Christians cannot hold themselves as superior to those who do not believe, look at www.thewayofthemaster.com
I hope you take the challenge and test all things.

I must first commend you on your lengthy comment - on this a now dead blog. I appreciate your effort on what obviously took quite a long time to type.

On the evolution of the human eye. There are species with far more advanced eyes than us, there are species with less advanced eyes than us, and there are species with very primitive eyes. You can climb Mt. Improbable by hiking up the gradual and gentle slope. You can't climb Mt. Improbable by a sheer jump up a cliff - the exact explanation Creationism / Intelligent design claims. Again thank you for your posting of bible verses and preaching but your book of ancient scribblings has no business trying to explain the evolution of life.

Good day

That's all there is to say about that

Hey Chris, I googled bible belt images and your blog came up. Thanks for the great example of what is routinely seen in the South. As someone that spent a large portion of his life in the poorest area(northeast arkansas)in one of the poorest states in the US, I can tell you that ppl blindly cling to their "bibles n guns." They don't have much else. I hold the leadership fully accountable for their lack of intellectual curiosity, that translates into terrible schools, no jobs, etc., but the churches are nice! One of the things that concerned me about Palin is how much she reminded me of the people I went to church with in Arkansas. Scary shit... Thank goodness me and mine got out. Well peace, don't know where you are located, but if this blog is no longer dead, hit me back on mine. BTW, did u see the CNN article regarding Latino abuse in the South?
