Oh man

Oh man this day has started off as a huge debacle I totally forgot about an eight o clock appt. and ended up being late. Which sucks. Anyway I am loving this N810 its perfect for blogging one the go. When I started this blog in 2004 I never would have thought something like this was possible.

I havent fully realised the full potential. The default region for the English is UK English (hence UK spelling) I want to figure out how to use the webcam and would love to start making You Tube videos. The N810 commercial I posted last week sums up me in a nutshell when the girl says "I would die if you took away my Internet" (that reminds me I think the bill is due again)

I love how I can blog laying down on my back with a handheld -thats truly cool.

Gotta get an early start tomorrow.

Just a quick tap out of a blog post this morning on the N810 while my nano get some fresh content. i will do a full write up on this device later right now its Mon morning and i gotta get back to work. Its been a long weekend.

Something odd going on

Well, I begin to wonder. I wonder if my bitching and complaining has gotten any results. I get an email from Nokia, saying that the items that are backordered have been split into a new order, and they would ship the items that are not on backorder in the original shipment, and then when those backordered items come, they would ship those on the new order. Fine I think, Ill get my super-ultra high mega capacity battery and my car charger, 13 days before the N810. So I investigate the links on the email and apparently, they say that the N810 and the Car charger shipped today and the super-ultra high mega capacity battery is currently on backorder. WTF!? huh? I mean seriously, WTF, If this was the case, they should have shipped it on the 20th, and I would have it right now. But there seems to be some odd shit going on over there. I just hope that everything comes through OK. So now it looks like it will arrive here on FRI and the battery will come later -somehow that doesn't jive with what the customer service dude was saying earlier. I will just have to wait and see.

Nokia USA called with some bad news

After ordering the N810 online on the 20th of March, I was already upset that it was on back order. I was expecting it to come in this week as was explained by email:



Cool I thought. So I call them up to re-verify the shipping address. Then the guy says something a bit worrisome. He says "The reason we sent you an email to call us..." and I am thinking "Hey, I didn't get an email to call you guys today." but he continued... "Your order is on back order... (I was already familiar with this after already having waited for 6 days) ...and will be expected to arrive on 8 April." I was floored. I was in shock and didn't say anything. He offered "you can cancel the order and then replace the order on the 8th" and I am thinking "fuck no, I don't want to cancel and run the risk of it being on backorder again" The guy on the other end has no idea how important this device will be to me -as a customer service guy -even though he works for Nokia USA (Or let's talk, Nokia's agent in the US authorized to speak on behalf on Nokia) but he couldn't offer anything else. Lets chock this one up to yet another round of BAD LUCK. So hopefully, 22 days after buying it online, I should have it in my hands. I have placed a google widget on my iGoogle page to count down the days, hours.... Am I just a little bit obsessed?

I think I ought to bring up something called parallax. According to wikipedia, parallax is the only direct method by which distances to objects beyond the Solar System can be measured. The Hipparcos satellite has used the technique for over 100,000 nearby stars.

I wanted to remove myself from that brand of militant atheism that is going around. I still like the term "born again atheist" as it is a perfect description for people like me, who were born into a religion - the religion of our parents, and have left and evolved as a non-believer.

I just pulled the new name out of my head. It stems back to High School, when I was reading about how they can determine the distances of far away galaxies. It was kind of a shame that they didn't teach redshift in H.S. Physics. Nor did they teach it in any other H.S. Science class I took. On that token, they didn't even touch evolution in Biology class. No We kids had to go to the H.S. Library to pick up books on the subject. At least the creationists didn't ban those books from our library. I spent a lot of time in both the H.S. Library and the public library and I am thankful to have done so.

There is a good article about redshift at wikipedia. If anyone reading this is unfamiliar with it, I recommend giving it a good read.

I-95 in Philadelphia to Close for Days

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A two-mile stretch of Interstate 95 in Philadelphia was shut down early Tuesday, backing up commuter traffic for miles, as workers began emergency repairs on a crack in a concrete support pillar beneath the major northeast corridor.

Repairs to the crack, which ranges from 2 inches to several inches wide, required closure of both northbound and southbound lanes of the highway north of the city's central business district, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesman Gene Blaum said Monday.

"Obviously, we feel it could compromise the strength of that section of the highway," Blaum said.

The section of the interstate carries about 190,000 vehicles a day, making the repair "a major undertaking," he said.

Traffic jammed at exit points as motorists were sent on detours around the closed area during the morning commute Tuesday. The stretch of I-95 was shut down after midnight. Mayor Michael Nutter said officials hoped to have the damage repaired in two days.

"Fortunately it was found, we're on top of it, and we're taking care of the situation," he said.

A smaller crack, about a half-inch wide, was first noticed by an inspector last fall. The same inspector happened to be in the area Monday and decided to check on the support, Blaum said.

"This crack has grown considerably since October," Blaum said. "It was very fortuitous that he took that look today."

One day when driving into the parking garage this woman (who drives the jag) was following closely behind me - impatiently. I had to reverse into a spot, and you can tell she was agitated. The parking garage isn't designed very well to begin with. And I saw this today. She deliberately parked that way so as to prevent someone else from parking next to her. If I drove a mini I would have parked centered on the parking spot (I should have parked there anyway) I hate it when people do this shit. Its as if they think they are more important than every one else. The dicks. (Or bitches as it were)

  • Opposed the Patriot Act.

that his positions will bring America together or make it a better place,

The war on drugs has never worked, and never will work.
Who gives a flying Fuck what his religious convictions are? Where does it say in the constitution that someone has to be a Christian to be president? It doesn’t. Even back during the penning of the constitution, it was generally known, that ones religion is kept to oneself.

I cant win

Back in Dec My 4th Gen iPod finally died. And I bought a replacement (the iPod Nano 8GB 3rd Gen Product RED) Which was brilliant. I tried testing it on my fm transmitter and there must have been some water in the transmitter, cause the iPod died as soon as I placed it in the transmitter. So I blame it on the accident first, but I should have known better.

I am pissed. But its still under warranty. So I go to the genius bar tomorrow. And they are hopefully going to replace it.

We will see.

SO now I loaded all my podcasts into the nüvi® 350 But the car mount is playing up now (water may have shorted out the charger mount)

Friday we had some freezing rain and then it started to snow. Having spent 3 years in Alaska an 3 years in Boston I -out of instinct - tried to recover out of a fishtail. Which would have been fine had the embankment been small or not as steep. I had a complete flashback from the infamous Smooth Rock Falls, ON incident of 2003. Or the even more infamous Flats incident of 1998. But this time I was driving the poorly engineered Ford Ranger as opposed to the superior design of the Subaru Outback. (The Flats - I wasn't even driving). It was so snowy, they couldn't tow it last night. And they (the State Trooper) said I was responsible for towing it out. So today I went down and did that. In this photo You see the drivers side door, and I tried to open it while upside down and it didnt open so I had to roll the window down to escape. I believe the seat belt saved my life. The airbags did not deploy. I walked away with minor injuries. Seemingly unscathed. (bruises, body aches, a super massive headache). The photos have been poorly edited using MS paint. (I never get my photos on explore because I don't use photoshop Or edit them in any way) I edited them cause I don't want to reveal my place of employment.

No really. Its now going to cost us 3 Trillion dollars (thats a 3 followed by 12 zeros) and we have lost 3974 US personnel as of today. (thats not including any maimed or mentally injured. I can imagine all 3974 of those people had at least one person who loved them -whose lives have been forever changed. For a mistake. For people pushing an agenda fast tracking approval through the congress.

This number - 3974 also doesnt include UK dead (175 as of today) and other "coalition" deaths (133 as of today) It doesn't include civilian "collateral damage" deaths either. Of whom no one is counting except Iraq Body Count

And gas today in Nashville is $3.19 And its as if those $300 checks are really going to help the economy. I'll tell you what will help the economy its to get out of Iraq and stop spending $7,400,000.00 PER HOUR

AUSTIN – Veteran State Board of Education member Pat Hardy of Fort Worth was defeating a challenger in the GOP primary Tuesday night, holding off an effort by social conservatives to gain a working majority on the politically divided board.

Victory by Ms. Hardy, a former high school teacher and current curriculum adviser in the Weatherford school district, in the GOP primary would virtually assure her of another term because no Democrat has filed for the post.

The Fort Worth Republican had been targeted by some social conservative groups for her independent voting ways and her frequent opposition to a bloc of seven social conservatives on the 15-member board.

Social conservatives threw their support behind Cleburne urologist Barney Maddox, known for his strong support of creation science and calls to revamp textbooks used in classrooms across Texas.



After some victories and some defeats, the creationism battle will continue to torment us.

It got cold



A weather front moved in and it got a bit cold. Which is fine cause we don't want plants to bloom thinking its spring and then die afterwards when it gets cold. I enjoyed the 70 deg (22 deg c) weather we had this weekend, and the timing could not have been better. But we don't want system wide damage to plants and trees like we had in 2007.


I was grasping at straws looking for a good photo to compliment the blog post but I couldn't find one. Sorry. The above is a screen shot, a resistance table for calibrating a temperature sensor.

Instead of putting "God" on our money we should change it to showcase some of America's best achievements in science. (Like our accomplishments in space, Maybe a man on the moon image or a space shuttle launching. )

Also some color would be nice. (not the color currently in use by the treasury, where it looks like someone wiped their ass with my $20)

And you gotta just love a country that puts a portrait of Charles Darwin on the 2nd most used bank note. the £10.
